LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - A Lafayette deputy has been arrested and charged with malfeasance in office, obstruction of justice and theft after she was accused of destroying an SD card from a surveillance camera.

On Thursday, Nov. 13, detectives with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office were assisting Lafayette Parish Correctional supervisors with an internal investigation involving Correctional Deputy Megan Huval and inmate Jerrod Brashear. Detectives installed surveillance cameras to monitor the situation.

On Friday, Nov. 14, detectives retrieved the surveillance equipment and found that two SD cards were missing from the cameras.

Both Deputy Huval and inmate Brashear were interviewed about the incident. Detectives learned Brashear removed the SD cards from the cameras and gave them to Huval to destroy, to hide policy violations they were involved in that day.

Huval was fired and was charged with malfeasance in office, obstruction of justice, and theft. Brashear has been charged with obstruction of justice.
