BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - ExxonMobil announced Monday they're giving a big donation as part of their partnership with the Foundation for the East Baton Rouge School System.

Exxon officials presented the foundation with a $275,000 check to fund the National Math and Science initiative grant. The grant will help pay for training and curriculum for hundreds of teachers in the East Baton Rouge school system.

That training will be focused on math, science and english. It will also help provide structured lessons and curriculum for students in the STEM field.

"It's going to provide them with teaching strategies and content knowledge that they can employ in the classroom to enhance instruction," said Ted Firnberg, President of the Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System. "This program has been used in other parishes in Louisiana, and states across the country, and the results have been dramatic in terms of student achievement."

The donation was made possible through ExxonMobil's commitment to community outreach.
