LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - A Louisiana judge ruled Monday that the state's ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.
The ruling by District Judge Edward Rubin of Lafayette reportedly was made as part of a case where two women are trying to adopt. One of the women is already the child's parent.
The couple's lawyers are making the ruling public.
The reported decision is the opposite of one earlier this month by a federal judge. He ruled the state's gay marriage ban does not violate the constitution.
The attorney general's office plans to appeal.
