Sheriff: Second drug bust at smoke shop nets 34 lbs. of synthetic marijuana
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - For the second time this year, narcotics detectives with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at Fun Times Novelty Smoke Shop in Baton Rouge.
The smoke shop is on Hewwood Avenue in Baton Rouge, off O'Neal Lane.
During this investigation, detectives found 34 pounds of synthetic marijuana, a Ruger .40 cal. handgun, a Kel-tec .223 cal. handgun, and $1,714 in cash.
One of the owners of the store, Bruce Wayne Moore, 47, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana.
Also arrested was 29-year-old Michael Joseph Daron Richard. He was charged with distribution of synthetic marijuana.
In March, the owners of the smoke shop, 40-year-old Demond Eams, and 47-year-old Bruce Moore, were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics after investigators found nearly 4,000 packages of synthetic marijuana between the two novelty shops they own; Fun Times and Fun Smoke Shop on Plank Road in Baker.
During the first drug bust in March, police say the shop on Hewwood had the dry compound and the liquid cutting agents used to intensify the effects of synthetic marijuana. The two are mixed and then sealed into individual packets. Police believe the street drug was being manufactured at Fun Time Novelties Smoke Shop and both shops were selling the products.
