ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Assumption Parish Sheriff's office arrested two men for carrying a firearm by a convicted felon.

The men, 21-year-old Dante Batiste and 28-year-old Rontrell Johnson, both of Labadieville, were booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center and bond was set at $15,000 for each.

Officials say Batiste called the sheriff's office saying that Johnson shot at him. It happened on Sunday. Johnson was purchasing a gun from Dante and test fired the weapon before fleeing. Johnson was being followed by Batiste who was on the phone with dispatchers. Deputies caught up with Johnson in Thibodaux and interviewed both men.

The handgun was later recovered.
