BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - School officials in East Baton Rouge have recommended 12 Scotlandville Magnet High students be expelled and two others suspended.
Keith Bromery, a spokesman for the district, says last Tuesday they learned about an after-school brawl in which students who were still in their uniforms were fighting.
Bromery says a mother of one of the girls involved in the fight went to the school and told them she believed something was going to happen. He says while she was at the school the fight was already happening.
The incident was captured on video, by cellphone. It shows several groups of girls punching each other, pulling each other's hair, and kicking each other.
Baton Rouge Police were dispatched to the incident. They arrested six people. Three students and three adults, including a woman believed to have been involved in the fight. BRPD officers say the incident is under investigation and more charges could be filed.
According to the school system spokesman, they do not get involved in off-campus incidents. Bromery says in this case, the students had just been dismissed from school and that they are considered under the care of the school system until they reach home.
Each student will have a hearing to determine if they will be expelled. They will then attend an alternative school.
