Man declared brain dead after hit-and-run on E. Washington Street
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man hit by a vehicle last week has been officially declared brain dead and police are desperately searching for the driver who hit him.
Earlier this week, 55-year-old Edwin Davis was taken out of a medically-induced coma. His family says Davis' injuries from the accident were too severe for him to recover.
The accidents happened on Aug. 25 when police say Davis was walking his bike across E. Washington Street and was hit by a car.
After the accident, Davis was put in a medically-induced coma to reduce swelling in his brain.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. The Davis family says finding the person responsible could help ease their pain.
"It helps to patch up some of the holes in our hearts," said Billie Davis, the victim's brother. "We're going to miss him a lot, knowing that somebody either came forward and said they were responsible or if someone says we saw the accident and we can describe the car, that would help us know that something is being done. At this point we have no information."
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
