BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge woman will spend eight and half years in prison for her role in a multi-million dollar medicare fraud scheme.

A judge handed down that sentence Monday to 54-year-old Hoor Naz Jafri.

Federal prosecutors  say she owned three community mental health centers-- two in Baton Rouge and one in Houston.

Investigators say the companies billed Medicare for services for the mentally ill that were unnecessary or never provided.

Jafri was also ordered to pay more than $43 million in restitution.
