DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office says it is handling the discovery of a body in Donaldsonville as a murder investigation.
Sheriff Jeff Wiley says investigators located the body in a heavily wooded area Thursday on the banks of the Mississippi River after a nearby worker called the police. Wiley adds that they suspect foul play in this case.
"We are treating this as a homicide and although the body has not been identified, it does appear that it is a body of a young black male," said Wiley.
Friends of 15-year-old Brandon Augustus, who was reported missing Saturday, fear the worst.
"It's crazy but the things that have been happening lately I don't know what to think because there's been too much happening like why," said Dontracy Carter.
Carter says Augustus was a quiet, good friend and says he misses him every day.
"Everything. Seeing him walk, seeing him run on the street, play basketball with his friends just that what up," added Carter.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
