LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - A man accused of having a knife in his hand while chasing a child was arrested Wednesday afternoon on a warrant for failure to appear for trial on an assault charge.

The Lafayette City Marshal's Office reported Jacoby Broussard, 27, was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident. The victim was 11 years old.

Deputies said Broussard was also wanted on a probation and parole warrant. According to court documents, he was given a suspended sentence and put on probation for two years after being convicted of aggravated flight from an officer.

However, officials said he violated the conditions of his probation when he allegedly left the state without permission. They added it resulted in a warrant being issued on March 11, 2013 with a $250,000 bond.

Authorities stated Broussard's criminal record dates back to 2007. His charges included failure to appear for revocation hearing on criminal charges of flight from an officer and drug possession.

He has also been charged with disturbing the peace, resisting an officer and threatening a public official.
