Bill would prevent recalled elected officials from running again

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The drama that seemed to never end for Port Allen may never repeat itself again thanks to a bill that passed Tuesday.

Sen. Rick Ward of Port Allen introduced a bill which says a recalled elected official cannot run for the same position in a special election.

This bill was created in response to former Port Allen Mayor Deedy Slaughter who was recalled in November, then ran again for the mayor's office in a special election in April. She had been in the office less than a year.

The bill passed in the House and Senate and now awaits the governor's signature.
