BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police say several banks and law enforcement agencies in surrounding areas have reported a scam involving debit cards.

Bank customers have received texts stating that their debit card had been locked and requested they call 337-552-2049 to unlock the card.

If customers called the phone number, a computerized voice instructs the account holder via telephone that their account has been blocked; at which time, it directs them to start by entering their 16 digit account number to unlock their account.

This is a scam and giving your account number will give the scammer access to your account.

If you are contacted, please do not respond to the text or if contacted via telephone services, just hang up.
