WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder that happened at a trailer park close to the old bridge. Authorities say the victim is 44 year-old Kerry Palmer. West Baton Rouge Sheriff Mike Cazes said his detectives think Palmer was killed by someone who was robbing her, but wouldn't go into more details. Cazes said this is the first murder in awhile for the parish outside of Port Allen city limits. He added the time of day and other things make this killing even more brazen.

"The bridge was shutdown, and there was a ton of cars on US-190 and on LA-1. And anytime you have a shooting that results in a murder it's very shocking," said Cazes.

Neighbor Rose Spears was in her home at the time of the shooting.

"I just heard these loud gunshots and I came outside. And I saw a guy running with a gun and I heard everyone saying she's shot she's shot," said Spears.

Palmer's dog was also shot. It was rushed to West Baton Rouge Animal Shelter, but the dog did not survive.

Detectives have not yet identified a suspect and are hoping for anyone with information to come forward. You can call Crime Stoppers at 344-Stop.
