BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A bill to allow legislators to carry concealed weapons has cleared a House committee.
The bill gives legislators the same rights as judges, district attorneys and justices of the peace regarding the carrying of concealed weapons in public.
However, lawmakers will still have to complete the same gun courses as law enforcement, including a psychological evaluation.
Opponents said allowing legislators to carry concealed guns creates a special privileged group. Supporters said they need the personal protection.
The bill now moves to the House floor for final passage.
