12-year-old in custody for shooting gun at school bus

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Friday afternoon's shooting at the corner of Jonah Street and 44th in Baton Rouge has been described as surprising and shocking. A 12-year-old boy shot a gun at a school bus full of students.

Baton Rouge Police say the 12-year-old got into a fight on the school bus. He got off the bus around 3:30 p.m., ran into his home, grabbed a gun and went outside and started shooting at the school bus. Three shots hit the bus, fortunately no one was hurt.

The 12-year-old then ran off before police arrived and police were searching for him with the help of his parents. He was found just before 5:30 p.m.

Officials with Kenilworth Science and Technology School contacted parents to notify them of the situation.

The 12-year-old has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on six counts of attempted first degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, aggravated criminal damage to property and juvenile in possession of a handgun.
