Southern University Day at the Capitol

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Monday was Southern University Day at the Legislature.

The main focus of the day is to make sure legislators keep Southern in the forefront as they go through the budget process.

"They got a lot of issues going on," says Southern Board Member Rev. Samuel Tolbert. "A lot of bills. A lot of requests. A lot of lobbyists and we want to be sure Southern university is on their mind, especially going through the budget process. We think it's important to come and press the flesh just like others do for the causes they want to come forward."

Southern is the only historically Black University system in the country.
