BRUSLY, LA (WAFB) - Brusly Police Chief Jamie Whaley has been indicted.

A West Baton Rouge grand jury came back with a true bill of one count of malfeasance in office and one count of theft over $500.  Both are felonies.

Whaley responded with this statement: "I really don't know what to say or feel right now. I'm shocked. I'm very very shocked."

Whaley is accused of using a department credit card to pay for gas used in his personal vehicle and boat.  Investigators say he did this on 29 separate occasions between Jan. 2, 2013 and Jan. 3, 2014.  The purchases totaled $1,122.75.

Investigators questioned Whaley and he admitted it. The following day he issued a check from his personal account to cover the amount.

His arraignment is scheduled for May 6.
