BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Women's rights organizations from across Louisiana are at the Louisiana State Capitol lobbying for equal pay.

Right now, Louisiana women make 69 cents for every $1 a man makes doing the same job.

"Once the practices start rolling out and women see what they're being paid and we start documenting those practices, you'll start to see a flourishing economy," said Melodia Gutierrez with the American Association of University Women. "You'll see flourishing families, so you'll basically start to see a fair playing ground."

The AAUW said there are four proposed bills this legislative session that would widen the scope of equal pay in the state. Last year, lawmakers passed a bill dealing with paycheck fairness, but it only applies to government workers.
