BAKER, LA (WAFB) - A security guard who was working the Baker birthday party where three teens were killed has been arrested for illegal use of a weapon.

Police say Donnie Cavalier, 25, fired two shots into the ground of the parking lot after the shooting to try to get the situation under control. He was charged with illegal use of a weapon and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail.

Baker Police say witnesses reported seeing Cavalier fire the shots and they also had cell phone video. When police contacted Cavalier, he admitted he possessed a handgun, but did not admit to firing the shots. Police say he later confessed.

During the interview, Cavalier told police he did not possess a concealed weapons carrying license or permit or have any type of certification or training that would have permitted him to carry a firearm on his person while performing security at the party.

The shooting happened March 28 at the Baker Civic Club during a private birthday party. The victims are Kendal Dorsey, 15; Diontrey Claiborne, 18 and Marcell Franklin, 15.  A 16-year-old has been accused in the triple murder.
