BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two people are dead and three more are injured from a fatal crash involving a man who is now facing DWI charges.
It happened on the Mississippi River Bridge early Sunday at around 2:45am.
Authorities say 38-year-old Dedrick Matthews was driving westbound on I-10 at the bridge. Police say Matthews rear-ended another vehicle occupied by 26-year-old Johnny Galmon, 19-year-old Kandace Cox, and two other occupants.
Galmon and Cox died at the scene.
The two surviving passengers were transported to a local hospital, along with an occupant from Matthews' vehicle, and they were treated for mild injuries.
Matthews was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with 2 counts of Vehicular Homicide, 3 counts of Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Reckless Operation, Careless Operation and DWI 2nd Offense.
