NEW ROADS, LA (WAFB) - The body of 66-year-old Isla Lazare was found in False River in New Roads around 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Pointe Coupee Sheriff Bud Torres confirmed.

Officials in Pointe Coupee Parish said Lazare left Lakeview Manor nursing home on the night of Thursday, March 27th. They also said that Lazare had a history of dementia.

"The video film from the security camera shows that she walked out after she had finished her cigarette and seemed to be walking with a purpose like she was going somewhere," said husband Jim Lazare.

The nursing home staff said surveillance video showed her walking out the doors at 9:55 p.m. wearing the same pink shirt seen in the picture.

"She doesn't know this area. She's been in the home here since we moved here after Katrina and she doesn't know her way around town. Her memory doesn't work short-term," Lazare said.
