BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two legislators are working to re-dedicate a tax on beer kegs to veterans.

The tax is $10 per keg of beer. It was originally set up back in 1948 to benefit World War II veterans. At some point, the money started going to the general fund and that's why two North Louisiana lawmakers want it to go back to the vets. The new fund would be the Louisiana Chapter of Wounded Warriors.

"We thought maybe we could get a portion of this money going directly to the Louisiana wounded warrior fund to help with their rehabilitation, the men and women who served this great country," says Rep. Frank Howard.

The new fund would benefit veterans who served in the Persian Gulf War in the early 90s or a more recent conflict, according to the bill. It would produce $5.3 million a year.
