BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Members of the group Legalize Louisiana took to the steps of the Capitol to rally for a change to Louisiana marijuana laws.
Hours before session began, dozens gathered Monday morning to plea with lawmakers to bring an end to what they call "cannabis prohibition."
Community supporters discussed everything from legalizing marijuana for medical use to expanding the use of cannabis as a raw material to ending penalties for cannabis use.
In the end, the group hopes lawmakers will put the power in the hands of voters.
"The legislature could pass the law to allow the voters of the state to vote on this," said Kevin Caldwell with Legalize Louisiana. "And, I think that would maybe be the best possible way, so the legislatures could see how the voters feel on this issue."
