BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Retired Army General Russell Honore is leading a different force these days. Saturday he'll be on the Capitol steps rallying for cleaner water in Louisiana.

The "Green Army" group says current laws protecting drinking water and the state's waterways are too lax. They're pressuring legislators to toughen restrictions on the oil and gas industry, and add more safeguards to prevent catastrophes like the Bayou Corne sinkhole.

"Our concern now is we've got to protect our water and we need better laws to protect it. The people of Louisiana can only look a few weeks ago to West Virginia and see what happened, and what happened in West Virginia can happen here in Louisiana, and it has happened," said Honore.

The "Rally for Water" kicks off at one o'clock Saturday afternoon on the Capitol steps. It lasts until 3 p.m.
