BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The owner of a long time gym in southeast East Baton Rouge Parish is complaining that new road construction is causing his building to fall apart, literally.

Donny Calloway, owner of Calloway's Gym, showed 9news a series of cracks in the foundation around his outdoor swimming pool.

"It was never that bad," said Calloway. "Last year it wasn't that bad. I've got a 100 members that can get and will sign a statement saying they lay out there last year and it wasn't anything like it is today." Calloway says the pounding of the pile-drivers is causing the cracks. A construction zone is about a half block away from the gym.

Calloway showed several members of the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Works Department around his gym early on Tuesday, including the director David Guillory. Guillory said he would withhold any comment until they could better get a grasp of the situation.

But now Calloway says he's got problems inside the gym as well. "I've always battled four or five leaks around here…always since I been here, been here 20 years. Now since this has happened I've got a hundred leaks a hundred leaks at least and that's cutting it lightly," says Calloway.

Plus Calloway says he's got to wait until they get finished to fully determine the amount of damage caused by the pile-driver. "They got 60 more pilings to drive; 14 now - 14 or 15. I've got a lot more piling so I can't say that I'm going to take this amount of money and fix what's over here because we don't know what the damage is going to be yet. That's why I haven't gotten the attorney involved yet. The attorney is ready but if I get an attorney nobody's going to talk to me," says Calloway.
