SLIDELL, LA (WAFB) - St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies found human skeletal remains Monday in a long-abandoned home on West Street, near Bayou Liberty, in the Slidell area. The remains have been identified.

According to deputies, based on their condition, the remains are suspected to have been in the structure for several years.

The remains were turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's office for identification and/or determination of cause of death.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office has identified the skeletal remains as those of 47-year-old John Felton Winston, Jr.

There is no word on the cause or manner of death at this time.

In 2010, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office asked for help locating 44-year-old John Felton Winston of Slidell. They said at the time that Winston disappeared after leaving his girlfriend's house on Jan. 19, 2010 to go to the grocery store.
