ABITA SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office say a 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday morning for the murder of his father and 2-year-old half sister.

Jacob Middleton, Jr. was booked Tuesday morning on two counts of first degree murder. The coroner reports that Jacob Middleton, Sr., 35, and Makayla Middleton, 2, both died from gunshot wounds to the head.

A father and his 2-year-old child were found shot to death Monday morning at a home in the small town of Abita Springs, officials say.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating the case after the man's wife found her husband and daughter in their home located on Carnation Street in the Abita Nursery subdivision.

Sheriff Jack Strain said the two were killed by "close-range gunfire."

We're told that law enforcement have been called to the home in the past for domestic issues.

During questioning by Sheriff's office investigators early Tuesday morning, Middleton admitted to shooting his father and his half-sister.  He indicated that his actions were the result of, among other things, his hatred of his father for what he claimed was years of abuse and family violence.

Middleton is being held without bond.
