BAKER, LA (WAFB) - Teddy Roosevelt was elected President of the United States the year Josephine Anderson Guy was born. It was the same year construction started on the Panama Canal and the first New Year's Eve celebration was held in Times Square. Guy was born on January 3, 1904, and this weekend she celebrated her 110th birthday in Baker.

The mother of six children is from Mississippi but lived most of her life in Baywood, Louisiana in the northeast corner of East Baton Rouge Parish.  Her Saturday celebration was packed with a large extended family.

"Her secret is she leads a clean life," grandson Adam Selders said. "She always has her cup of tea and an occasional Coca-Cola."

Her four daughters say Guy is still very much in charge of the family, and that it only takes a look to know what she's thinking.

115-year-old Misao Okawa of Japan is currently the oldest living person in the world. She will turn 116 on March 5th.  The oldest living person ever documented was French-born Jeanna Calment. She died in August of 1997 at age 122.
