BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators have arrested three more people, bringing the total number of arrests to six, in connection with a deadly drug-related shooting at a Baton Rouge apartment.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported Avery Honea, 17, of Prairieville; Ivan Graham, 19, of Gonzales; and Bryton Montelaro, 18, of Gonzales, were booked Friday morning.
Demarcus James, 20, of Prairieville, was arrested Thursday at a hospital. He is suspected of shooting Jared Vincent, 22, of Baton Rouge, to death. Aaron Hargrove, 19, and Patrick Anderson, 20, both of Prairieville, were also arrested Thursday.
The shooting happened on Ridge Pecan Drive in Baton Rouge early Wednesday morning. Investigators found Vincent dead inside his apartment around 5 a.m. Detectives said they discovered a large amount of marijuana inside the apartment, along with evidence of a struggle and gunfire.
Deputies said they now believe James, Hargrove, Honea, Graham and Montelaro went to Vincent's apartment to steal drugs and money from him. They reported James allegedly went inside the apartment, Hargrove and Honea allegedly waited outside the apartment, while Graham and Montelaro allegedly stayed inside the vehicle. Investigators think Hargrove and Honea fired shots at Vincent's roommate as he ran out of the apartment after the shooting started inside. The unidentified roommate was shot in the back. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
EBRSO said it is believed James walked out of the apartment a short time later with a handgun and all of the men fled the scene before detectives arrived. According to reports, James was dropped off at a hospital in another parish Wednesday morning. He was suffering from several gunshot wounds. Deputies said they found James at the hospital Thursday evening and took him into custody.
Reports indicate Anderson went to the hospital Wednesday with a gunshot wound to the hand. He reportedly told detectives a family member arrived at his home with several pistols and blood on his clothes. The relative allegedly told Anderson the pistols had been used in a shooting in Baton Rouge earlier that morning.
Anderson reportedly told investigators he agreed to clean the pistols and hide them. He alleged one of the handguns accidentally went off while he was unloading it and that's how he was shot in the hand. Detectives said they found two hidden pistols believed to have been used in the shooting.
James has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of first-degree murder. Hargrove and Honea were booked on charges of principal to first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. Graham and Montelaro are both charged with principal to first-degree murder. Anderson faces a charge of obstruction of justice.
The investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing.
