HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - The Southeastern Louisiana University Lions celebrated a bit of school history Wednesday.
A pep rally was held in advance of the team's spot in the NCAA playoffs, as the Lions focus on a national title.
Southeastern has never made the playoffs before and its first post-season game will be held Saturday night in Hammond against league foe Sam Houston State.
Second-year head coach Ron Roberts said there are a number of reasons the Lions jelled this season.
"It involves a great job of recruiting, bringing in great talent," said Roberts. "Our guys bought in and had a great offseason. It is a culmination of several things that have to fall into place."
The Lions had a first round bye. They actually beat the Bearkats 34-21 in the regular season.
Kickoff at Strawberry Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
