THIBODAUX, LA (WAFB) - Police said a Crime Stoppers tip helped them arrest a man who allegedly stole a donation jar intended for patients with Cerebral Palsy.

The Thibodaux Police Department reported Frank McKenzie, 32, of Thibodaux, is charged with simple battery, felony theft of goods (3 counts) and felony theft.

He is being held in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond is set at $18,000 and there is a parole hold.

Investigators said McKenzie walked into a convenience store on West 1st Street in Thibodaux and snatched a Cerebral Palsy donation canister from the counter that had about $40 inside.

Police said they received a Crime Stoppers tip with the name of the man seen in surveillance pictures.

Detectives said they later connected McKenzie to three other thefts in Thibodaux. They added in one of those cases, the suspect used physical force on an employee to get away with stolen items.

The investigation is ongoing.
