CONVENT, LA (WAFB) - Less than an hour before it was officially Thanksgiving Day a tragic crash on Louisiana roadways left one woman dead and another badly hurt.
Louisiana State Police said Griselda Davis, 48, of Gonzales, died after a two-car wreck on LA 70 near LA 3125 in St. James Parish around 11:30 p.m. Troopers added Elaine Lewis, 46, of St. James, suffered serious injuries in the accident.
State Police reported the initial investigation into the crash showed the 2003 Ford Taurus that Lewis was driving crossed the center line and hit Davis's 2013 Volkswagen Jetta head-on. Investigators have not determined what caused the Taurus to cross the center line.
Davis was flown by helicopter to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, where she died from her injuries. Lewis remains hospitalized, but her exact condition was not given.
Troopers said both women were wearing seatbelts and impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash. Blood samples were taken from both drivers per standard protocol in deadly wrecks. The samples were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
