SCOTT, LA (WAFB) - A 33-year-old woman is accused of stealing from her elderly employer. She was arrested after she confessed to investigators and is currently being held on a $3,500 bond.

According to the Scott Police Department, the investigation began on Nov. 4, 2013. The elderly victim told police that she was very ill during the month of September, so she hired someone to run errands and assist around the home.

"The elderly female advised that a total of $700 was stolen from her purse over several weeks," Chief Chad Leger, Scott Police Department, said in a press release.

The elderly woman suspected that her new employee, Ashely Leger, was responsible for the theft.

"Investigators located and conducted an interview with Ashley who admitted to both the theft of the money and the unauthorized use of an access card." Chief Leger added.

Leger was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 21. She was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
