BAKER, LA (WAFB) - Fire gutted part of a Baker home and destroyed a car Wednesday night, but everyone inside was able to make it out safely.

The Baker Fire Department reported it happened in the 13800 block of Blair's Town Drive around 11 p.m.

Howard Ward, the public information officer for BFD, said crews arrived on the scene to find half of the three-bedroom home on fire and the flames were already through the roof.

The three people inside the home when the fire started safely escaped.

According to Ward, firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control and prevent it from spreading further.

Ward said investigators determined the fire started under the carport. A car that was under the carport was left as a charred hunk of metal.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the victims.
