Police make arrest in deadly N. Baton Rouge shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder on Iroquois Street.

Baton Rouge Police report they were successful in finding the location of Kyle Russ Jr. also known as "KJ", 18, of North Street. Russ was at his mother's house this morning when he was taken into custody.

Police transported Russ to the Violent Crimes Unit, where he refused to make any statements. Later he was booked into the EBR Parish Prison.

Russ is being charged with 1st degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

Baton Rouge Police identified the victim of the deadly shooting as 21-year-old Elijah Stevenson. The shooting occurred in North Baton Rouge Friday afternoon at around 3:50 p.m. in the 3800 block of Iroquois St. near Chippewa and N. 38th.

Police say Stevenson had just left a dice game and was walking down Iroquois Street when a black male known as "'KJ" approached him from behind on a bicycle and fired several shots at him. Stevenson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
