Independence employees sentenced for misusing city gas cards

INDEPENDENCE, LA (WAFB) - Three employees of the town of Independence have pleaded no contest to charges of using the city's fuel cards to buy gas for their own cars.

John Henson, 49, Jeffers Cook, 55, and Charles Garafola, 55, were arrested in early April after police were notified that the men had used the cards.  Henson also used town money to buy an alternator for his car.

All three were sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay restitution.

A fourth man, Reginald Jefferson, 54, faces nine counts of unauthorized use of an access card.  His trial date was set for September 16.
