BAYOU VISTA, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said the public helped them track down a 50-year-old man suspect of stealing money from a Walmart store.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office said Kim Armand of Morgan City was arrested Monday around 10:45 p.m.

He is accused of robbing the Walmart in Bayou Vista on Saturday. Deputies said surveillance video from inside the store showed the suspect break into two cash registers and take more than $3,000. The suspect left the store and rode away on a bicycle.

Investigators said they posted details on the sheriff's office's Facebook page and released them to the media in hopes of receiving information that would help identify the suspect. Their plan apparently worked.

A detective reported getting a tip with the suspect's name and location. The tipster identified the suspect as Armand. He was found at the Morgan City Motel a short time later. Investigators said he had drug paraphernalia with him at the time.

He was booked into the parish jail on charges of theft, criminal damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

No bond is set.
