BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - There's no need to worry about a five-cent tax on plastic bags in Louisiana, at least not yet.
State Rep. Regina Barrow, D-Baton Rouge, told the House Ways and Means Committee she won't pursue the proposed tax this session. She added she knew it couldn't gain passage, but she will consider the idea for future sessions.
Barrow originally proposed the tax, saying bags like ones used at grocery stores, too often become litter.
Right now, Hawaii is the only state to have completely banned plastic bags.
