It is the most common cancer among women in the world and in the United States, one out of eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Men can develop breast cancer as well. In our country alone, the disease will claim some 40,000 lives this year and Louisiana has one of the highest rates of breast cancer deaths.

While there's no cure for it, with early detection and better access to health services, breast cancer victims have a better chance of survival. That's why WAFB is proud to partner with the Komen Baton Rouge Race for the Cure.

Of the funds raised in the Baton Rouge area, 75 percent stays here to support critical programs involving cancer eduction, screening and treatment. WAFB's Donna Britt, a breast cancer survivor herself, is emceeing this year's event next Saturday, March 2, on the campus of LSU.

We'll also have a team participating in the race. It's a great way to show support for the many families impacted by breast cancer. We hope you can join us. See you next saturday.
