Ammonia leak at Reddy Ice in Baton Rouge leads to evacuation

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A two-block radius around the Reddy Ice Facility at 1140 Myrtle Street in Baton Rouge was evacuated due to an Ammonia leak.

The children at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School after care program were also evacuated.

The evacuation order was lifted just after 9 p.m. Thursday.

The leak was discovered by someone passing by the Reddy Ice facility and smelled it.

The official name of the substance leaking is anhydrous ammonia.

No injuries were reported.
