BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge detectives have arrested a Baton Rouge Police Department Officer on charges of forgery, injuring public records and malfeasance in office.
Derek Jason Burns, 29, is accused of forging signatures on several misdemeanor summons without the individuals having knowledge of such act between June 6, 2012 and July 26, 2012.
Baton Rouge Police started an internal investigation which led to the discovery of the crimes.
Burns is charged with four counts each of forgery, injuring public records and malfeasance in office.
According to Baton Rouge Police, Burns has been a Baton Rouge Police Officer for six years and was currently working in the department's Prisoner Processing Unit.
Burns was arrested Thursday morning and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
