NEW ORLEANS (WAFB) - With fans lined up to see the first day of Saints training camp, the rains came, the team was forced indoors, and the fans, back home.

For the team, it was a productive day and the only rust Drew Brees showed, was losing a couple of quarterback competitions he and Chase Daniels have daily.

"We do a quarterback competition after every walk-through. The loser or the losers have to do something embarrassing. Yesterday, Chase won and so you had to do a push-up on command anywhere and anytime throughout the course of the day. Actually, you owed him three. So you could be walking into a team meeting and he could say 'drop down and give me a push-up' and you have to do a push in the middle of team meeting and everybody is looking at you crazy. It could be as you are sitting in the buffet line for a meal or something like that. That is not heart-warming. It just lets you know that we are in camp and everybody is fair game. I have lost the two QB competitions that we have had so far, so maybe I am a little rusty."

Brees said it was strange not having head coach Sean Payton at practice, "that is going to be an adjustment as we go through here."

Saints star Tight End Jimmy Graham was excited to see the team's leader back at practice. "It felt great. Number one thing is having Drew Brees back, our leader. I feel like in each day we're going to get better. I got better. Everyone got better and hopefully we can keep taking those steps forward."

With a new defensive coordinator (Steve Spagnuola) and a new scheme, Sedrick Ellis says the adjustment has been an easy one.  "We are back to a true four-man line defense which is similar to what I was raised and came up in. So I'm excited to see how we do when everyone gets familiar with each other and plays together for a bit and see how it pans out."

Day two of Saints camp starts at 4pm today and fans are welcomed to see the team practice, unless the rains come again.

WAFB's Jacques Doucet is at Saints training camp, watch 9Sports tonight at 6:00 and 10:00pm for updates.
