PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A Prairieville man is behind bars after he allegedly robbed an elderly man at gunpoint and stole his pickup Wednesday.

According to reports, Samuel Stokes, 27, entered the elderly victim's home off Highway 929 armed with a handgun, ripped a phone cord from the wall and wrapped it around the victim's neck, then stole his wallet and truck.

The truck was later spotted at L&D Trailer Park off Highway 42.  Witnesses say Stokes drove the truck into the steps of a mobile home in the park and fled.

Sheriff's deputies later tracked Stokes and the stolen truck to Royal Hotel on North Airline Highway.  As they approached, Stokes tried to make a break for it on foot but was caught a short time later.

Stokes has been charged with home invasion, armed robbery, armed robbery with use of firearm, auto theft, misdemeanor theft, criminal damage to property, and simple battery.
