Account set up to help pay funeral costs for 8-year-old beaten to death
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An account has been set up to raise money toward the funeral expenses for an 8-year-old boy authorities have ruled was beaten to death.
An account has been set up at Regions Bank titled Benefit of Xzayvion Riley.
The Bold and the Beautiful Outreach and Empowerment Social Club, along with the Baton Rouge chapter of the Nubian Kruzers, have opened the donation account to help lay him to rest.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office was called to an apartment complex on Coy Avenue in Baton Rouge on June 12.
Deputies arrived to find Xzayvion Riley unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Detectives said hospital staff counted 56 marks on the little boy's body.
The coroner's office reported Xzayvion had more than 60 external signs of recent and past trauma, which include cuts, bruises and adult size bite marks on his abdomen.
Xzayvion also had an "overwhelming infection" due to blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
The autopsy revealed that Xzayvion died due to a ruptured intestine caused by blunt force trauma to the stomach.
According to the forensic pathologist, the injury was potentially treatable, if doctors had seen the victim when he complained of stomach pains.
