Are you ready for the change?

Are you ready for the change?

We're talking about the Facebook change. Come to think of it, I'll bet the Facebook change will affect more people than menopause will affect women this month (just a thought). If you didn't know that Facebook is changing to the Timeline look, it is happening, and supposed to happen at midnight tonight! Make sure to change your cover photo to something you want; we think Facebook will just choose one for you out of your photo galleries! Also, it would be a good time for you to make sure your privacy settings are where you want them.

Another talker today...Lottery officials say they are increasing the Mega Millions lottery jackpot to $640 million, raising what was already a world-record prize. The talk in my home and in the newsroom is "what would you do with that kind of money?" The thought is really inconceivable! (insert Princess Bride movie line here).

There is a lot of Baton Rouge area news that is buzzing, but not all of it is good news:

Traffic was a nightmare this morning, one crash happened around 4:30 a.m. - a semi overturned in I-12 at the Amite River Bridge and messed up traffic for hours. The driver of that crash was cited. The second crash happened on I-10 at the 10-12 split. A car overturned and the driver was taken to the hospital. To keep an eye on the traffic during your commute, check out the traffic section on the WAFB iPad/iPhone/Android apps.

Iberville Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a deadly early morning shooting in Plaquemine. It happened just before 5 a.m. this morning in a room at the Relax Inn Motel on Highway 1. The gunman is still on the loose. WAFB's Kelsey Davis will have the latest developments on 9News at 5 and 6.

A grand jury has indicted five men on three counts each of first degree murder. Authorities say the people were killed during an alleged plot to steal gold and silver coins and cash that a coin collector kept in a safe at his home.

Nearly 600 people got word this week that they will soon be out of a job. Tune in tonight on 9News at 5 and 6 to hear what companies are involved.

Southern University has officially hired a new Athletic Director. The Board of Supervisors has approved the hiring of William Broussard as the next leader of Jaguar athletics. Broussard is the former AD at Centenary College in Shreveport.

Fog will be a concern early Saturday morning. We hope to dry out by the weekend, but maybe southern areas of the viewing area may see an additional storm or two Saturday. Check in with the 9STORM TEAM on 9News at 5, 6, 9, and 10 for the latest.

Check out a comprehensive 90 minutes of WAFB News beginning at 5 p.m. with Andre' Moreau and Cheryl Mercedes. We'll have the CBS Evening News at 5:30, then return with local news with Donna Britt and George Sells at 6 p.m.
