ALBANY, LA (WAFB) - State Police say a young boy was killed Saturday night after he was hit by a car while riding his bike.  The accident happened just before 7:30 pm on LA 43 just north of US 190 in Livingston Parish.

Troopers say Kaylin McKinney of Holden was driving south on LA 43 when she approached two cyclists riding side by side on the right side of the lane.  One of the cyclists, 12-yr-old Brian McCahill, Jr. attempted to cross over into the northbound lane just as McKinney was attempting to pass.  McCahill was hit from behind and was ejected from his bike.  He was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Troopers say impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash.  An investigation showed that McKinney was driving properly but was unable to avoid hitting McCahill.  No charges have been filed.
