MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) - Two people die after a helicopter crash in South Louisiana Thursday morning.

Lanny Ledet, a longtime employee of Cenac Marine Services, was the passenger of the helicopter, a Robinson R-44, registered to Cenac Marine Services in Houma.

A Cenac official says the helicopter, piloted by a third party, crashed into Wax Lake, South of Morgan City.

Several fishermen and hunters called 911 after spotting the helicopter on fire in the water.

The identity of the pilot has not yet been released.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Department has multiple boats on the water at the crash site.

They are using a boat launch at Cabot Corporation, about seven miles from the site.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says federal investigators have been dispatched to the scene.
