BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Many travelers met with a mess trying to make it home, as an accident involving an 18-wheeler carrying cucumbers snarled traffic for 30 miles Sunday.

The Louisiana State Police reported it happened on Interstate 10 East between Grosse Tete and Port Allen around 10 a.m.

Cars were bumper-to-bumper on both sides of the roadway. Troopers reopened I-10 at 7 p.m., once all of the cucumbers were cleared from the highway.

On the eastbound lanes, the delays stretched for miles onto the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge toward Lafayette.

The westbound side rubbernecking delays stretched past the I-10/I-12 split in Baton Rouge.

There were moderate injuries reported in the crash, but no serious ones.

Officials said the Sunday after Thanksgiving is always a very busy travel day anyway and the accident made it even worse. Other minor accidents were reported within the delays.
