OSYKA, MS (WAFB) - The two-week search for a wanted man known to fire at officers ended when he was found hiding behind a trailer and was hit during a shootout.

Wednesday's capture happened the day after Kaunda Magee stole a car and led law enforcement agents on a chase from Louisiana into Mississippi.

He was located in Osyka, which is in Pike County just across the state line from Kentwood.

A state trooper doing property checks in the area discovered Magee hiding behind the home.

Officials said Magee opened fire on the trooper, who returned fire and wounded him.

The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Authorities said the capture is a relief for people in both states.

The investigation is ongoing, as Magee will likely face additional charges.

He was originally wanted for rape, kidnapping and four counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
