HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Authorities have taken a man off the streets they said used Facebook to befriend women, but would later harass and stalk them. He is also accused of extorting sex from some of them.

The Hammond Police Department said Adam Kolb, 26, harassed some of his victims for years.

According to detectives, the investigation started Friday when a woman reported a man named Adam Kolb told her if she did not continue a sexual relationship with him he would send racy photos of her to her friends and family.

Police said they eventually found 26 other victims who've allegedly been stalked and harassed by the same man.

"He's a predator is what it appears," said Lt. Vincent Giannobile with the Hammond Police Department. "He would use whatever means possible to find out where I lived, where I worked, what my phone number was," added Laura Freeney, a victim who has been stalked by Kolb.

Giannobile said the phone have been ringing off the hook with calls from alleged victims reporting run-ins with Kolb.

"Really, for a long time, I thought it was just me," Freeney said.

Freeney explained she decided to speak out hoping it encourages others to do the same. She said she grew up with Kolb. The two were friends in school, but as they got older, he started harassing her. She said they had an argument one time and he sent her a seven-page long text.

"He repeatedly sent it over and over and over again. He was calling and leaving me extremely long voicemails, telling me what a terrible person I was, just completely degrading me," she stated.

She said she turned her phone off that nigh and when she turned it on the next morning, there were 500 text messages from Kolb.

"He's been using harassment, harassing phone calls, cyberstalking victims," explained Giannobile.

Police said they learned Kolb would meet his victims online. He allegedly hacked the Facebook account of one of his victims and used to it to prey on women. Freeney said that's how he found her.

"He contacted me via Facebook as a girl saying my boyfriend had cheated on me, got her pregnant...that she wanted to meet and show me proof she had," Freeney added.

She said after a few more messages, she recognized the aggressive writing as Kolb and went to police. The women who allege they are victims of Kolb have set up a separate Facebook account, telling how they were harassed and trying to alert others to report it.

Freeney said she's spoken with some of those women, whose stories are much worse than what she's experienced.

"He's harassed some for four and five years, driven by their homes when they're having birthday parties for their kids, threatened to kill their kids in front of them. It's scary. Nobody deserves to live that way," she explained.

Kolb is currently booked at the city jail in Hammond, charged with extorting sex from women. Detectives believe other victims are out there. The number to get in touch with the Hammond Police Department is (985) 277-5741.
